Hen party at home Ideas
From the start of planning a bachelorette party at home, there are a few key elements to remember, and if you keep these three rules in mind, you can't go far wrong:
1. Know your bride and what she would enjoy.
2. The main goal is to get all girl friends together and celebrate the bride in all her glory.
3. Make it fun!
Every bride is unique, some are super girly girls who would love nothing more than a pink Cinderella themed party, while others would rather be spoiled with a whole day of activities.
Really Old Fashioned - A Sleepover
I don't know about you, but one of my absolute favorite things growing up was having my girlfriends over for a sleepover. We may have gotten older (a little) but the basics of a sleepover are still great, and now we can have some drinks! It's perfect for a small group of close friends instead of going out drinking, getting together and having real conversations.
- Choose a house, your own, a co-bridesmaid's or the bride's family home if her parents are on board of course.
- Arrange treats, sweets and all the good things.
- Buy plenty of drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).
- Plan some fun games, twisters, trick or treating, charades, 'Put the Tie on the Groom' - A really easy variation of 'Put the Tail on the Donkey', all you need to do is print a large photograph of the husband-to-be and a separate tie or fly and grab some needles!
- Rent some girl movies – Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, Clueless, all the favourites!
- Buy some fun pyjamas and slippers for the bride.
- Ask guests to bring their own pyjamas (choose a colour or theme to match) and sleeping bag.
Keep it simple, fun is having all her girlfriends together, add some drinks and silliness and you'll be up all night!
Cocktail night (at home)
It is a universally acknowledged truth that all girls love a cocktail! Without having to attend an actual class, it's pretty easy to save money and do it at home, and it's a fun way to get everyone involved in an activity.
- Choose recipes that you feel comfortable making and teaching others to make, and keep it simple with 3 different recipes. We have tons of posts about cocktails and there are great ones on Pinterest.
- Make sure you have plenty of ingredients (accidents will happen!) Most cocktails are mainly juice or lemonade so it won't cost as much as you think.
- For supplies you will need cutting boards and knives, cocktail glasses, measuring jugs, shot glasses, cocktail shakers, decorations (small umbrellas, straws etc) and cleaning supplies. Grocery stores and IKEA are stocked with stuff so go there and stock up.
- And after the "lesson" you can have a free-for-all and ask everyone to have a specialty in mind and vote on which one is the best, if you can think clearly!
Wine and Cheese Evening
Wine and cheese, are there two better things in the world? This one is simple and depending on the number should be reasonably cheap. Get high quality produce from local farmers markets, lots of grapes and just hang out. It's a quiet type of hen party, but if you're spending time with older family members or looking for something more sophisticated, this could be the one. (You can always have jagerbombs and tequila shots after the wine runs out!)
Lottery dinner
Those who love to host and love dinner parties but think it's a lot of work to cook for 10 or more people and most of them are no Jamie Oliver! So when you discover the concept of 'Lottery Dinner Invitations' you will be delighted and find them to be a great idea for hen parties on a budget. The rules are simple: Everyone brings something. How does it work you wonder?
- Decide if you will have a theme such as a Mexican or Italian night, or just a 'Lott'.
- Depending on how many people are coming, divide the meals. 2 people bring starters, 2 people bring main courses and 2 people bring desserts.
- If there are many guests, ask some to bring decorations, alcohol and props instead of cooking.
- Use people's talents. If you have a Martha Stewart on your hands, ask them to cook. If you have a creative person with craft skills, ask them to make some table decorations, like individual table places.
- Make sure to get everyone involved.
Barbecue evening
Unfortunately weather dependent, although I'm sure you as Swedish people have had 'Indoor Grills' so you won't have any problems moving everything if it gets a bit wet. A barbecue evening is an excellent way to gather people in a relaxed environment with good food and wine.
Hire a DJ for your home or party venue
Not all DJs cost a fortune, so why not hiring a DJ: for your hen party. Not only can the bride dance the night away with a glass of champagne, but you can also bring the clubbing experience to your living room. Create space on the dance floor, send in your favourite song requests and warn the neighbours that it's going to be a party tonight!
Camping (or your own version of luxury camping)
Something to get you out of the house for a while, how about a Camping-Möhippa? The key to throwing a camping themed bachelorette party is to be prepared. There are lots of great places around Sweden to set up camp, take a look at the Swedish Camping Association for all the information you need about location and guidelines. When it comes to making camping a great bachelorette party on a budget, don't forget:
- Be sure to tell guests what supplies (clothing, sleeping bags, etc.) they should bring.
- Borrow what you can, you'd be surprised who's been camping these days.
- Be sure to bring plenty of food and drink as you won't be near many shops.
- Plan some games.
- If you don't want to travel far, consider camping in your own backyard, you'll appreciate having a toilet close at hand!
Change of clothes evening
A bit of fun and some new clothes for the wardrobe, it works brilliantly over dinner and a few drinks. Especially if you bring some fun stuff that you really should get rid of instead of pushing someone else.
- Organise a venue, your house or your fellow bridesmaids.
- Give guests plenty of notice as they will want to raid their wardrobes.
- Make sure everyone brings good quality clothes they still love but don't use - No rags ladies!
- The fun of the evening is trying on each other's clothes. You'll get rid of your old clothes while having tons of laughs and you might even snag something amazing from your friend's closet that you've been eyeing for ages.
No matter what you do - Have fun! – Hen party at home Ideas
The most important thing to remember is to have fun. All the bride really wants is to hang out with her best friends, so just make sure it happens!
